Name: Denise Sanematsu Kato

About me:

I’ve been practising mindfulness and meditation in the Buddhist tradition of Plum Village since 2006. I was ordained by Thich Nhat Hanh as a member of the Order of Interbeing in 2010, and have facilitated weekly meetings with the local Sangha in my hometown (São Paulo, Brazil) for over twelve years.

I have a background in Psychology (PUC-SP) but spent most of my professional life working as a conference interpreter. My greatest motivation is to help people cultivate understanding and connection - with others and with themselves.

Mindfulness and compassion are the heart of Vidyamala’s vision, and this is what inspired me to become an accredited teacher with Breathworks. It’s wonderful to see this vision taking shape in the world and to be connected to it.

Mindfulness is a seed that lets us bloom as beautiful flowers, when the heart is kind. It’s a path of deep transformation. My aspiration as a facilitator is to encourage people to reconnect with the seed of mindfulness that is already inside them. To experience this process in my personal practice and as a teacher brings me a lot of joy and gratitude.
